Multiple IRONMAN Champion, Lucy Gossage, will continue to wear blueseventy in 2017 after renewing her long-term partnership. She plans to take on the UK based IRONMAN events as well as IM Lanzarote this season.
After two top ten finishes at the World Championships in Kona, Lucy has proven herself as one of the world’s best long-distance athletes. This year she has returned to her job as an oncology doctor in Nottingham. The focused training around part-time working has already paid off with a life time best half marathon performance at the recent Cambridge Half Marathon.
“Swimming isn’t necessarily my strongest discipline, so it’s really important that I have great swimming products that I have confidence in. Having a really good wetsuit makes a big difference and having worn the Helix through all of my most successful races, I’m really happy to continue my link with blueseventy.”
IM Lanzarote in May will present the first big test this year. The Island is known for its high winds, heat and volcanic mountains. The course rewards strong cyclists, something which Lucy certainly is, having set the fourth fastest bike split in Kona in October. She previously won in Lanzarote in 2014. The race involves a sea swim, which is nearly always calm for the early-morning start, but the Canary Islands location in the Atlantic Ocean, 80 miles off the coast of Africa can mean that storms and swells affect the conditions.
“All of the key races I have planned this season have wetsuit swims, so it was important for me to be wearing a suit I’m happy with.”
